Question: There are several GL accounts we no longer use. Can we delete them?
Answer:
While it is possible to delete GL accounts, it is a better idea (especially in the the case of a duplicate) to merge the unused accounts into currently used accounts. Merging will move all GL data and entries from the old account to the new, and it will ensure the accuracy of your financial data.
To merge an account, go to Association > GL Accounts. Once on this screen, find the GL that you want to be merged and click Merge. Input the GL Account you want to merge into and then click Perform Merge. All GL information will move from the original GL into the new GL
Warning: There is no "unmerge" button so be careful to make sure you are merging the correct GL accounts.
Note: Duplicate GL postings are typically caused by having two active GL accounts with the same code. To resolve this, navigate to Association > GL Accounts, search for the duplicate GL Code, and either merge the two accounts together or mark one as Not Used.
